Sakai Itto, coordinator

Coordinator specializing in connecting people with people, people with communities, and people with art. Works to create venues conducive to fostering “intimate spheres” among people.

Born in Tokyo in 1992, Sakai is a resident of Takeno-cho, Toyooka, Hyogo prefecture. He enjoys the trust and friendship of a broad network of people involved in culture and the arts in various parts of Japan. Writes interdisciplinary articles based on conversations with people about local culture, art, and crafts. In 2021 the Agency for Cultural Affairs invited him to join a research team on high value-added cultural tourism. As a member of this team, he interviewed individuals working locally in culture, tourism, and community-building activities, planned and conducted workshops, and wrote and edited articles on those activities.

In recent years, he planned and hosted a “Sonzai no Kyaku” all-night serendipity party aiming to encourage people to mingle spontaneously rather than intentionally at the bar Bonobo (Jingumae, Tokyo) and “Tayutau Gunto,” an invitation-only group and stay program at facilities in Teshima Espoir Park in the Seto Inland Sea featuring a mix of self-initiated programs by participants and mutual gift-exchange.

Trustee, Kiyoharu Shirakaba Art Museum Foundation. Graduated from the Faculty of Letters, Keio University, majoring in Japanese literature.
